Outdoor recreation is more than just having a good time outside, it’s about building a community. And what better way to build a community than through sharing food, beer and donating to a local nonprofit? In order to have a more diverse outdoors and a greater client base, we need to support organizations coming together to show that the outdoors is truly for everyone. That’s why we are excited to be able to host events to not only connect with the community, but to give back. Morsel, Mountain House, and Base Camp Brewing partnered with the local nonprofit Adventures Without Limits to expand this community through our version of wine tasting. For over 20 years, Adventures Without Limits has been working to dissolve barriers to outdoor adventure through inclusive, adaptive, and community-based programming. Their trips provide their guests of all abilities with opportunities to learn new skills, increase self-confidence, overcome fears, find community, and enjoy the best of Oregon's natural wonders.
On October 25 we paired five classic and new Mountain House meals with five different beers from Base Camp Brewing. If you didn’t get a chance to check out the event, here’s a full list of the pairings for you to try out at home, or on the trail!
1. Yellow Curry & Timber Trail Juniper Cherry Wheat
We got a sneak peek of Mountain House's newest recipe, Yellow Curry with Chicken; coming 2020! It's a traditional take on a Thai Curry and packed with flavor and spice. Those intense flavors were complemented by the soft and subtle taste of Base Camp's Juniper Cherry Wheat.
2. Chicken Fajita Bowl & Northwest Fest Lager
The Chicken Fajita Bowl is a fan-favorite and destined to be a classic Mountain House meal. Its savory and smokey flavors paired perfectly with the Northwest Fest Lager thanks to the malt-forward caramel and toffee tones of the beer.
3. Pasta Primavera & Send It IPA
This deliciously cheesy vegetable pasta from Mountain House will be the thing your taste buds need after a long day at the crag, but most importantly, the sharp parmesan sauce in the pasta tops out with the sharpness of the IPA’s hops. The combination of these flavors together will give you the power and motivation to send anything.
4. Homestyle Turkey Dinner & S’mores Stout
Nothing says comfort and holidays like a turkey dinner and a rich chocolate dessert to top everything off. This Mountain House and Base Camp pair will ensure you can always have turkey day leftovers any time of the year while in the backcountry.
5. Fusilli Pasta with Italian Sausage & Belgian Golden Strong Ale
If you’re looking for an exquisite meal in the backcountry, pair your Mountain House Fusilli Pasta with a Belgian Golden Strong Ale from Base Camp. The hints of wine in the Belgian Ale compliment the vegetables and sausage for when you feel like you’re dining at a five-star restaurant while viewing five million stars.
We are happy to support organizations getting more people outside, such as Adventures Without Limits. The Program Director of AWL, Carrie Morton, wrote these kind words about the event “At AWL, we recognize that our work would not be possible without the support from the greater outdoor community. It is cooperative initiatives like this that keep the outdoors accessible to all!”
We couldn’t have made this event happen without the support of the outdoor community. We owe a huge thank you to Ruffwear, Hydroflask, Mountain House, Morsel, and Base Camp Brewing for raffle items, as well as Mountain House for donating the meals, and Base Camp Brewing for the delicious beer and cozy venue.
If you couldn’t make it to this event or didn’t know about it until now, don't worry! We will be hosting another event in the Spring. Follow Morsel on Facebook and Instagram for more updates.
